Consulting Experience

  • Consultant for rehabilitation of tank linings on two very large crude carriers (VLCC) converted into floating production and storage operations (FPSO). Provided third party inspection services for work on site during drilling and production operations.
  • Consultant for a major Eastern U.S.A. waste water treatment authority’s infrastructure rehabilitation program. Personally conducted the failure analysis on sewer mains and treatment facilities; researched state-of-the-art surface preparation equipment and methods and the latest protective coatings technology; prepared specifications for bid purposes; and reviewed all submittals for technical and economical accuracy. Also trained the authority’s inspectors in the latest coatings inspection equipment and procedures and provided weekly oversight over the shotcreting process.
  • Advisor for three major oil and gas companies in their bidding process for selection of global scale coatings suppliers. Reviewed all submittals, researched product comparisons and created a program for the purchasing department decision making process.
  • Principal consultant to the South Dakota Department of Transportation for bridge maintenance painting program. Performed a condition survey on 30 different bridge structures; designed and reviewed results of coatings degradation studies; designed and reviewed results of comparative laboratory testing of prospective coating systems. Based upon these tests, wrote a complete new construction and maintenance painting specification for their bridges.
  • Designed an innovative surface preparation and sealing process for a laminated wood beam bridge entering Mount Rushmore national monument, which restored the original condition after 20 years of atmospheric attack. Bridge won a national architectural award.
